Starting Current Results

Full-Load Current
34.9 A
At rated load, voltage and power factor
Estimated Starting Current
244.3 A
≈ ×7.0 of FLC (Direct-On-Line (DOL))
This estimate is for guidance only. Always verify with motor nameplate data and manufacturer curves.

Step-by-Step Calculation

  • Full-load current (from motor sizing): 34.9 A
  • Selected start method: Direct-On-Line (DOL)
  • Typical inrush factor: ×7.0
  • Estimated starting current: 34.9 × 7.0 = 244.3 A

Safety Warnings

  • Very high DOL starting current. Verify transformer and upstream breaker capacity.

Understanding Motor Starting Current

Induction motors draw a much higher current when starting than during normal running. This inrush can be 5–8 times the full-load current in Direct-On-Line starting.

High starting currents impact voltage drop, upstream breaker sizing, transformer loading, and can cause nuisance tripping if not considered during design.

Always check local codes (e.g. NEC 430) and manufacturer data when selecting starting methods and protection.
